Toast (“daughter” of Instagram star TheFatJewish, who boasts 2.7 million followers), is fronting Karen Walker’s summer 2015 eyewear campaign. With her iconic tongue hanging out and wind blowing in her wavy tendrils, it’s hard to imagine another model better suited to front the campaign. Could this be the end of Cara?
“Toast and Karen forged a mutual love, respect, and admiration,” a spokesperson for Karen Walker told ELLE.com. “Karen, an animal lover in her own right, was captivated by the charismatic canine and concluded that it was a match made in heaven.”
Here, we talk to Toast about landing the campaign, who she thinks is her biggest competition, and what advice she’d give to aspiring animal models.
Toast, such an honor to be talking to you today. Tell us about what drew you to Karen Walker’s sunglasses.
I think they have more imagination and personality than all of the more basic shades that people wear. A Karen Walker girl has a story and a personality. My favorite pairs from this season are the Maze in pink and gold, because they look like they are from the future, and the Starburst, because who doesn’t love a cat eye on a dog?
What was the shoot like? Did you have any special requests for the staff to have on set?
The shoot had a really good energy. I made sure they had a wind machine because I look best with a slight breeze under my tongue. Tacos are my favorite food so we had them on set. I like to show people that I eat just like everyone else.
I’m sure you had a lot of big names to beat out for this campaign. What was your reaction when you heard you landed it?
It just felt right. Karen Walker is a brand that I wear in my everyday life and the designer and I have always had a connection.
I’d like to ask you a little bit about some other big names in modeling. What do you think of Cara Delevingne?
Cara and I have bonded over having famous body parts. You know, Cara’s eyebrows… my tongue…although my tongue doesn’t have its own Twitter handle yet.
Who do you consider to be your biggest competition right now?
Gisele. We both have amazing beach waves.
Karen Walker’s sunglasses are big style statements. Do you have any styling tips for someone buying their first pair?
I am very into the idea of more, more, more! I don’t shy away from pairing her glasses with loud prints, a turban, or even a loud handbag. I love color!
